As we approach our 56th wedding anniversary, I look back to August 30, 1959, and realize how my life was shaped by a wonderful girl I fell in love with and married, and how lucky it has been to be her partner. A quote by Karen Klodfelder sums up my feeling as we look forward to our twilight years. "As we continue to change with age, there is one thing that will never change...I will always keep falling in love with you". When I first met Leona, I found that not only was she a beautiful girl, but a kind, thoughtful and giving person. As the years passed, she continued to be a wonderful wife and mother, supportive of our family and my career. I am truly blessed to have her as my partner and best friend. We are so fortunate to have successful children and grandchildren. Over the years we have had some health issues, but have overcome them, and now together, we are ready to accept what the future may bring. It has been a wonderful life Michael Lewig's quote applies to my feeling about love---"Love one another, and you will be happy, it is as simple and as difficult as that"

Fifty six years ago, when Paul first proposed to me, there was no way I would ever had turned him down. On our first date his poor little car broke down, fortunately he was able to coast into a service station. When he lifted up the hood and he looked so distressed, I thought to myself, "Now here's a man I could fall in love with." He then went across the street to a house whose light was on...(yes, it was late...!) and asked if he could come in to call a cab which the owner did. Can you imagine that happening today?
Well, the rest of the story is history. We naturally had some minor ups and downs along with some major health problems, but here we are in the twilight years of our lives, my dear, definetly popular person with most people who meet him, funny, thoughtful, creative, persistent in his endeavours and since his retirement my sous and chef, my "Papa" or "Grandpa" both names he gets called.... I would not for the world ever have wanted to "have traded him in" in spite of a few minor downs. He IS my rock! Besides Kauai is his favorite rock to go to and we are so very happy that Katie and Mike are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary as they were married there as were we at almost the exact day this many years later.
