The Greeks language uses many words to describe the word love - for example Eros (erotic or physical) philia (brotherly or friendship), storge (family) and agape (unconditional).
All of those words describe my journey with Scott Ellertson. Our relationship began with the seeds of friendship and rapidly blossomed into a more lusty flower. Quickly our family grew and we learned to incorporate others into our circle. Our relationship is rooted in a deep friendship and enriched by the family dynamic. After over 30 years of celebrations, the mundane tasks of everyday life, a few tears and lots of laughter I know I received the ultimate from Scott - agape - or unconditional love. The crazy schemes I suggest and the outrageous comments I make in odd company don't uproot our connection and love.

After returning from visiting her friend’s parents for the weekend, my new college friend Mandy Taylor enthusiastically told me her friend’s older brother had paid her the compliment of saying she was “one in a million”. Even through the blur of my mad crush on Mandy, this comment helped to define for me why I was so attracted to this unique woman who would later become my beloved best friend and wife. I had never met someone so fun, full of energy and focused.
This year we unexpectedly met up with this same friend from college for the first time after 33 years. She didn’t even know we had gotten married. Mandy, of course, was able to immediately rekindle their friendship. I was reminded again of the brother’s compliment, but now it had taken on a different meaning. I no longer viewed Mandy as simply one very unique person in comparison to a million others. Uniqueness was not reason enough to love her. Instead, my deep love for her stems from each and every one of the million unique and wonderful moments spent with her over the past 33 years. I am truly lucky in love.
